How to convert MP3 to WAV
The quick way
- Open the MP3 to WAV converter.
- Drop your MP3 onto the box, or click it to choose the file.
- Leave the settings as they are, or open Audio settings to choose a sample rate and bit depth.
- Press Convert to WAV, then Download.
Which settings should I pick?
If you are not sure, keep the sample rate as "Same as source" and choose 16-bit. That matches what most MP3 files contain. Choose 24-bit or 48 kHz only if your project needs it, for example a video project set to 48 kHz.
What the WAV will and will not be
An MP3 is a compressed copy of the original sound: some detail was removed to make the file small. A WAV made from it keeps exactly what the MP3 contains. It will not sound better, because the removed detail can't be brought back.
What you gain is a format that editors and samplers open without decoding, and that can be edited and saved again without losing anything more.
How big will the file be?
About 10 MB per minute at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo. A four-minute song is about 40 MB as a WAV, compared with about 4 MB as a 128 kbps MP3.
Other ways to do it
Free audio editors can also open an MP3 and export it as WAV. A converter like this one is quicker when you just need the file.
