Converting FLAC to WAV

FLAC compresses audio without losing any detail. WAV stores the same audio uncompressed. Converting between them changes the file, not the sound.

WAV is uncompressed, so editors and samplers read it straight away and every export starts from the same data. The cost is size: expect about 10 MB per minute at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo.

WAV at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo. FLAC varies with the music. Compare WAV and MP3

Questions people ask

Is anything lost converting FLAC to WAV?
No. Both formats are lossless, so the audio is identical. The WAV is simply larger.
Why would I want WAV instead of FLAC?
Some editors, hardware and older software read WAV but not FLAC. WAV also needs no decoding, which some workflows prefer.
Is the converter free?
Yes, within limits: 3 files a day, up to 100 MB each, with ads. You don't need an account.
Are my files private?
Converted files are deleted 1 hour after they are made. Nobody else can open your download link. Read the privacy page for how we handle files and logs.
Is it legal?
Only convert files you own or have permission to use. You are responsible for the files you add. Our guide on the legal side explains more.
Why did my FLAC conversion fail?
The most common causes are files over 100 MB, damaged files and files that aren't really FLAC. Check the file opens on your device and try again.
